Manipuri Solo Dance by Debanjali Biswas, presented by Akademi South Asian Dance
3/08/2017: 12:30 PM - 1:20 PM
On Thursday 3rd August at 12.30pm, Devonshire Square will host in its Western Courtyard a Manipuri dance solo by professional dancer Debanjali Biswas, presented by Akademi South Asian Dance.
The free attendance show is part of the Devonshire Square’s “Tales of Silk and Music” Indian Dance Festival, organised by the Devonshire Square’s Events Team to celebrate the UK-India Year of Culture.
Manipuri dance is one of the major Indian classical dance styles, named after the region of Manipur, a state in north-eastern India where the dance originated.
Manipuri is particularly known for its love-inspired dance drama of Radha-Krishna, called Raslila and its exquisite performances, characterised by graceful, fluid and sinuous movements with greater emphasis on the upper body gestures.
